“Sorry, but in reality, going to a farm sanctuary to learn about animals in agriculture is roughly equivalent to going to the Magic Kingdom to learn about feudalism.

Farm Sanctuary has put a ton of money and effort into bashing sustainable, humane animal agriculture. Instead of trying to improve the standards on small, humane farms, they have launched a massive propaganda campaign against them, with the aid of the most vocal anti-localism, anti-sustainable ag, pro-GMO, pro-industrial ag Monsanto apologist in America, vegan activist James McWilliams. Here is a chilling example of this from the Woodstock Farm Sanctuary’s own site, which perpetuates myth after myth while bashing every major form of sustainable, biodiverse agriculture. They even directly cite none other than James McWilliams in their misguided screed against sustainable, humane animal agriculture:

This is what Tom Philpott of Grist and Mother Jones had to say about McWilliams and his attack on sustainable agriculture:

“Whatever his reasoning, this moralistic vegan must live with the fact that the net effect of his public-intellectual work has been to serve the interests of an industry that treats live animals as industrial inputs, ruthlessly exploiting them while trashing land, water, and public health in the process. McWilliams’ career may be benefiting from this strategy, but his stature as a defender of animal welfare is nil.””
