Most Buddhists are not vegetarian. And most Hindus are not
vegetarian, either. Just because they don’t eat beef doesn’t
mean they aren’t eating goat, lamb, chicken, and fish (and even
water buffalo). Even Hindus that avoid meats other than beef
(and they are in a distinct minority) are certainly not vegan,
since the use of dairy is pretty much universal in India. It
always amuses me when people invoke Buddhism and Hinduism in
support of vegetarianism, since all it shows me is that the
people taking this line don’t actually know squat about the
cultures where those two religions are dominant.
